University of Manchester

The Cognitive Robotics Lab, within the Machine Learning and Optimisation Group (MLO) at the School of Computer Science of the University of Manchester, is one of the leading international labs in the area of human-robot interaction and cognitive robotics. The MLO currently hosts over 30 PhD students and 6 postdoctoral researchers. It also has a Master programme in Advanced Computer Science. Cangelosi and the MLO staff have an outstanding track record of coordination and participation in numerous FP7/H2020, UK EPSRC and US projects for a total of over €10m in the last five years, including the coordination of two Marie Sklodowska Curie training networks (H2020 APRIL EID, FP7 ROBOT-DOC ITN, both with Cangelosi as coordinator,) and of 4 FP7/H2020 projects. Cangelosi’s Lab also is involved as Principal Investigator in the H2020 projects such as the Marie Sklodowska Curie ETNs SECURE and DCOMM. Cangelosi also led the £1.6m UK EPSRC-BBSRC project BABEL on neuromorphic systems for robotics. The Lab also has funding from the Honda Research Institute in Offenbach and is part of their European Graduate Network.
